Fresh Vegetables
In all the project areas, large number of farmers does have vegetable cultivation, mostly for home consumption as well as for local markets. Since most of the organic farmers are located in remote locations, there is very little availability of fresh vegetables in those areas and thus organic farmers are also able to sale their organic vegetables at decent margins.
For many years efforts were made to establish market linkages for organic vegetables. For quite some time, about 500 Kgs of fresh vegetables were also exported regularly, but due to limited and uncertain cargo space availability, at Jaipur, this initiative could not be scaled up to become a regular & efficient operation.
In the domestic markets for handling of fresh produce, the present volumes makes logistic to become very expensive, thus the final price becomes very high, and thus the organic vegetables have limited acceptability. We have therefore been now concentrating on creating value addition infrastructure. Presently Dehydration is being experimented and for some we are working to convert them in to Frozen form.
